Headteacher update Friday 2nd October 2026
Having spent much of the past week fielding the question Sir are you going to the Mop? I can confirm that the
answer to that on so many levels is a very definite No!
I am aware of the excitement that such an event causes, but I have been really pleased that it has not caused
issues with tired and/or over excited pupils in school. Am I allowed to say that whatever your view of the Mop is,
it does appear to have helped with the much-maligned local town traffic at times!
On the subject of community news, thank you so much to the many of you who filled in the settling into life at St
Egwin’s survey as a pupil or parent/carer. I will be analysing the findings and will produce a summary of key points
in due course. As always I really appreciate you taking the time to give your thoughts.
Collective Worship this week
Building on the theme of Creation, we have been considering the start of life and the importance of shining light
in a time of darkness. Pupils have been reflecting on the challenges that we all face and looking at ways that we
can be a light for someone else during a period of darkness. This fits perfectly with our distinct Christian vision
and has promoted a really interesting response from pupils.
Prayer of the week
Our prayer for next week was written by Jacob G:
Dear God
Please give students the courage to try their best in their lessons. Help the students to have a good rest.
Give the students the support to succeed.
Help the students to understand that it’s not about the results, it’s about trying their hardest.
Thank you for the teachers that guide the students throughout their journey leading.
Amen
House and attendance updates
Well done to Curie for being the top attending House last week which meant they remain the overall leaders with
attendance.
Once again we had a week last week with over 3000 House Points awarded, so well done all for trying their best.
Attenborough were the top House in Year 6, Turing in Year 7 and Curie in Year 8 but the overall winners were
Christie! Their victory was achieved by the massive margin of 5 House Points!!!
Pupil achievements
Well done to the following pupils who were top House Point achievers for the week:
Attenborough – Sophia R. Well done Sophie for also being our amazing overall winner too!
Christie – Henry B, Annabelle B and Brooke B
Curie – Ruby W
Farah – Jake R and Maddie P
Turing – Penelope P
Amazing work from Brooke B saw her recognised as our Oracy Champion of the week.
Outstanding work from Eli S-T saw him crowned our Chef of the week.
Lily O was our amazing artist of the week. Her beautiful work is seen below:
Our readers of the week were Mason C, Oscar T and Rosie W.
Our writers of the week Wilson L, Poppy J-L and Jessie P.
Road safety
I have had reports of a near miss earlier this week involving St Egwin’s pupils crossing the road in town. With many
of our pupils walking to school I cannot impress how important it is for pupils to observe good road safety at all
times. Looking both ways, not using mobile phones and listening carefully must always be observed when
crossing.
Thank you for your support with this.
Silly craze
I appreciate that silly crazes come and go. It is important though to ensure that crazes do not affect safety. I have
had reports recently that pupils with haircuts are being hit round the neck and head. This isn’t OK so please
ensure that this craze is something that ends please.
Have a great week next week.
