St Egwin's is absolutely committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. We expect all members of our school community to support this philosophy, operating an 'it could happen here' mentality
Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. Mrs Louise Sage (Assistant Headteacher) is our Designated Safeguarding Lead. Mr Steve Plane (Deputy Head), Mr Russell Langley (Key Stage 3 Lead), Mrs Victoria Hoskins (Key Stage 2 Lead) and Mrs Wendy Rigby (Pastoral Support Officer) are all Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leads. The Governor with responsibility for child protection is Mrs Rachel Price.
Mrs Sage produces regular updates for parent/carers with key safeguarding information in order to ensure that safeguarding updates are readily available. This is one of the many ways that we work in a strong partnership to ensure that safeguarding knowledge and responsibility is a shared bond between school and home. This information is sent regularly through our Edulink system

We provide staff and volunteers with guidance to follow when they suspect a child may be experiencing abuse or at risk of harm. All staff at St Egwin’s are given regularly updated training in order to ensure that we work together to safeguard and protect all children at the school. This training takes many forms such as guidance from The National College and from high quality external providers such as Creating Safer Organisations. As well as providing high quality training we also ensure that the Safeguarding team are well supported and supervised in order that they deliver on this vital element of school life.
We work co-operatively with other professionals and external agencies to safeguard and promote the welfare of all children. We will ensure that our concerns about our pupils are discussed with parents/carers first – unless we have reason to believe that such a move would be contrary to the child’s welfare. We appreciate the challenges this brings but our responsibility is the welfare of a child and as such we will always place that at the forefront of our decision making.
As a school, we recognise the power of early intervention and Early Help, with the aim of supporting concerns and issues before they escalate into more serious Child Protection concerns. Please refer to our Early Help offer for further information with regards to the additional support we can provide.
We have several key staff who have received Mental Health training, supporting staff to spot signs and symptoms of common mental health issues, which allows us to provide non-judgmental support and reassurance, and guide the young person or adult to seek professional support they may need to recover. We work with counsellors who support children in school, as well as liaising with key outside agencies where additional or alternative bespoke support is required.
We recognise the challenges and issues surrounding safeguarding and child protection and will always act in the interests of safeguarding children as the highest priority in our school.

Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) is the key national strategy that sets out how we keep children safe.
Online Safety
We recognise the challenges and dangers of the online world that pupils access. We have systems to monitor IT use in school and have a wide curricular programme to alert children to the dangers of the online world.
