Home School Info Young Leaders
The Young Leaders program is a national qualification run by Young Leaders.org.
Mr Taylor (Head of PE) conducts the Young Leader training over the Autumn term of school. ‘Qualified’ Young Leaders are then responsible for assisting Mr Taylor in the running of sports festivals and events that may take place on St Egwin’s grounds or away at other venues. Often, these events are designed by Young Leaders for pupils at our feeder first schools to take part in.
The Young Leaders team is made up of 30 year eight pupils who apply in writing at the start of the year. Applicants are chosen on the strength of their application, attitude and aptitude within P.E. and also around the school in general.
Successful Young Leaders are awarded their certificate at the end of the year and may then continue as part of the Prince Henry’s Young Leader team during their time at High School.
St. Egwin's Young Leader Team is highly regarded across our pyramid of schools; we are often tasked with working with large groups of pupils to help facilitate county sport festivals and district events.
We work closely with our SGO Mrs. Lisa Houghton, based at the Demontfort School, and with Prince Henry's High during their hosting of the district cross country events.
We have recently begun to work with some of our feeder first schools, using some of our Primary Sport Grant, in order to help develop confidence and ability in small groups of pupils. During these sessions, we use our school mini bus and excellent sports hall and grounds facilities to bring Young Leaders and First School pupils together for the mutual benefit of all concerned.
